A taste for home produced salami first got us involved in the Gin Pig™ story. For a time we sourced our pork elsewhere, but then we met Brett at Yarra Valley Berkshires. Our family began growing grapes at Blackwood Hill in 1985, in 2018 we partnered with a perfect farm sideline business that makes our otherwise unused land, productive.

Just like winemaking, our ultimate aim, while remaining a small operation, is to produce the best free-range pork in Australia.

We believe that to produce the best pork you have to have the best breed of pig, give them a beautiful stress free life with an abundance of healthy food and exercise.

For us, this venture is about being more connected to what we eat, respecting an amazing animal and producing a high quality product.

Berkshires are a rare breed black pig renowned for producing some of the best pork in the world. Our pigs are raised in open paddocks and are able to dig and graze the way that nature intended.

With the help of our friends at Four Pillars Gin, we created what is now famous as the Gin Pig™. We add the spent gin botanicals to the feed of our pigs. The result is an infused pork with the combined flavours of juniper, coriander, cardamom, star anise, lavender, lemon myrtle, occasionally some turmeric and ginger.
